Word Clouds - Great Teaching Tool

Below are six word clouds highlighting the First Inaugural Address of six presidents throughout USA history. I find it fascinating to see the words each president found important to initiate their presidency. Word clouds are a great tool for teachers to compare and contrast ideas with their students. Cloudy with a chance of voting

Great tool to use in contrasting candidates for students.

Cloudy with a chance of voting

Here are those word clouds we had on today’s show. Chuck talked about the big words that pollsters heard the most in our new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll. Do check out the smallest words in all four – some interesting results overall.
What word would you use in each of the four categories? Tweet your thoughts into the conversation at #dailyrundown.

Congratulations to the Class of 2012

As we conclude this season of graduations and commencement speeches it makes one reflective. I realize each year brings about a new class of unique graduates anxious to begin their next stage of life. Individuals like no other, filled with special gifts and talents that will have a profound impact on this world. But I think the most unifying factor in all the graduating classes through all the years is the hope they represent. They stand and celebrate their work and we congratulate them knowing that the future looks brighter because they exist. I know witnessing this hope always makes me optimistic about the future and glad we take the time to celebrate their accomplishments.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLASS OF 2012

EdCampSS - March 24. 2012

I was introduced to EdCamp last October by attending EdCampNYC and I cannot begin to tell you how awesome the experience has been in my journey of becoming a full-time educator. I am currently in the Alternate Route Teacher program of New Jersey having obtained my Certificate of Eligibility in Social Studies K-12. EdCampSS is now my second EdCamp and I can hardly wait for my next chance to attend another EdCamp. What is an EdCamp? It is a one day learning experience driven by the concept of an un-conference, that is a conference not structured by the traditional model of presenter to attendee, but structured by the model of attendee to attendee. This my seem like like a minimal difference but in reality it is a difference that raises the value of the discourse and collaboration to a level unmatched by most conferences. Without experiencing the conference it is difficult to give an EdCamp a fair write up to understand  the value. The podcast below produce by the wonderful educators of TeacherCast is one of the best to understand an EdCamp - but the greatest way to understand EdCamp is to sign-up and attend an EdCamp near you - I am certain you will not regret your decision. Hope to see you soon at an upcoming EdCamp.

Introducing TED-Ed: Lessons Worth Sharing

TED-Ed Launches on YouTube

TED-Ed's mission is to capture and amplify the voices of great educators around the world. We do this by pairing extraordinary educators with talented animators to produce a new library of curiosity-igniting videos. A new site, which will launch in early April 2012, will feature these new TED-Ed Originals as well as some powerful new learning tools.

For those who can't wait that long, we're pleased to announce the official launch of TED-Ed's YouTube channel featuring all of our new videos. Also, we are happy to extend an open invitation for the nomination of educators and animators and the suggestion of lesson ideas.
